Neumorphism or shall we say Skeuomorphism is a hot topic in UI trends. For the past months we have been talking, debating, and even more since the release announcement of the macOS Big Sur coming this fall. Why? Because it's cool! One thing, I do like about this 'style' is the craft that goes into an icon design. Something we have neglected since everything is 'flat' nowadays. I do like this shift, obviously there will be debates all sorts of things but why not.
Ever since we introduced the new abdz. design, I haven't really taken advantage of some of its key features to help us share 'inspiration' on the blog. One of them is the 'video embed integration' that I have been requesting for quite some time, now it's here. For my first roundup, I wanted to share a series of 'user interface inspiration' handpicked from Dribbble.
Benedikt Lehnert who work as 'Director of Product Design for Fluent, Mobile and Office Experiences' at Microsoft shared about their freshest update on Fluent UI. What's Fluent UI? It's a collection of UX frameworks that will be used and shared across platforms to help them produce the next generation of Microsoft 365 experiences.
Arthur Galustyan shared a simple, clean and elegant web design he worked for a Japanese Industrial Designer named Naoto Fukasawa. I love the simplicity of the design and how it gets lovely within the interactions when they are played from transitioning from pages to pages. Personally, I am obsessed with the bottom 'description card', it adds clarity and again uniformity. It pays such a beautiful homage to Naoto's work and at the same time putting his work in a very delightful perspective.
Working at building a product, as a designer. I spend most of my days designing and chasing down tickets to stack up enough work for the 'development build cycles'. Recently, I had a ticket that required a 'landing page'. It has been a little while since my last design and I decided to give a thought and do surf on Dribbble. There a lot of cool stuff but also repetitive designs by sharing a common behavior. But most of them were pretty cool, I decided to share a couple of them in this feature.

Personally, I would have feedback on everything that would involve an experience. For games for example, it's an introductory to a virtual world where we usually go to escape the 'real world' and enjoy ourselves to stress down from our daily lives. Especially during times that we are currently living.
The 'raw concrete' of the Web, unconventional, hard-coded, creative? In a few words, these are some of my keywords I have in mind when mentioning 'Brutalism'. If you go on Dribbble at the moment and you start surfing the first few pages, you will see what the community calls it the overall 'design trends'. I am not saying it's bad but we all somehow fall into this pit of standardization of what should be the basics of UI. We would like to showcase a few cases of 'brutalism in Web Design' that goes the boundaries of the basics and they probably had a lot of fun making these.
Aside from web & mobile applications, it's not every day that we stumbled across a case study for 'Television Experience'. More specifically for AppleTV and tvOS, even adding to that medium. Imagine designing experience in another language in combination with English, how about 'Hebrew'? Well, that's exactly what the fine folks from Designit collaborated on with yes, Israel’s leading TV provider. It was also a strategic transformation from a satellite service into a transition their core TV service delivery to the internet.
I recently discovered fellow designer Brian Lovin and his useful and inspiring product design portfolios. I definitely do recognize a few names in that list and wanted to feature a few on Abduzeedo. Let's meet Karolina Szczur. Obviously, she is a product designer and has worked on projects for Calibre Design System and Help Scout Rebrand.

How about we called this trend: Neumorphism UI👋 One thing for sure, whatever you think it's a trend or not; it definitely had us creating Neumorphism for UI kits, integrations or this cool soft-UI CSS code generator by Adam .
We are featuring the work from Cristian Lorca who shared an interesting concept on his Behance profile for Harman Kardon Citation. Bringing another level of touch with speakers from the Harman Kardon family. At first glance, you can't help to appreciate all the levels of the process shared in the documentation. It's concise and clear. You wouldn't think there is so much work to design such a small interface but wrong.
A couple of minutes ago, a good friend of mine living across the Atlantic sea. Sent me a 'designer meme' to laugh about. It was a joke about designer/developer handoff supported by a beautiful UI inspired by Skeuomorphism design from the old days, circa around the 2000s. It reminded me how this is making a comeback somehow, is it? It's kind of being inspired all together with recent 'chef d'oeuvre' related to 'Retrofuturism' mixed with spacial stuff. Since all UIs nowadays are designed to be flat, boring but integrated through systems.
Let's start it off by saying that I really do enjoy diving into a student project. Fewer boundaries and more room for creativity. This is what we are mostly striving as we go deeper into our career level, once you understand your work ethic and establish a solid structure. There are times where you would just love to create something without leaving it out to requirements, user stories, feedback and etc. Pure fun, I think we all should somehow have a side-project to experiment and have fun with it.
This is a game prototype that I would love to share on ABDZ, it's a prototype (soon-to-be-released) designed by Sylvain Theyssens, Anthony Meric and Oleg Pashkovsky. First, the game is all about timing as I quote: "You are given only ninety nine seconds to succeed. The more you play, the fastest you become, and further you can go". Interesting concept right? Now let's take a closer look at the interactions, they are quite subtle especially on the UI but it gets quite creative with the game itself. It will be interesting to give it a try when it will become available.
Lipault™, a French luggage brand based in Paris, France. We are following their recent redesign of their e-commerce front by Werkstatt. More specifically the role of Pierre-Jean Doumenjou as Lead Art Director on the team. At first glance, it's a lovely design with a tremendous accent on the image portion. They are promoting the products with so much flair, you can tell that Lipault™ is a luxury brand.
Kulik Oleg is a graphic designer and a UI/UX designer based from Kharkiv, Ukraine. We are sharing his web design concept for the United States history. It's an interesting approach especially with his colours, bright orange! Do you think it does compliment the images well? I do love his choice of typography and the text layouts are intuitive plus easy to read. One particular thing that I do like a lot is how it is presented. Because of the projects we see all the time on ABDZ, I have rarely have seen this approach and it's quite good.
It's not my first time seeing this but the use of 'illustration' in product design is very important nowadays. Most of us designers are eager to craft the simplest and most intuitive user experience. Meanwhile, we do sometimes neglect the use of illustrations to communicate the features with much more tenacity. This is why we are sharing the work of Aldiyar Aidash who is a product designer taking a stab at illustrations, really great stuff! It's definitely will be inspiring some of us to take the right 'virage'.
Hrvoje Grubisic shared a beautiful brand identity and UX/UI design on his Behance profile for Uinetry™. You've probably noticed that we launched a new design and we focused on simplicity, so as you expect this project I am sharing with you here is another example of minimalist and still very elegant style. I love the grid system and how the whole system works so well, going from the logotype to collaterals and digital.
We are featuring a very interesting case study that involves 'interaction design and UI/UX' of a medical app concept for parents who needs attention for their sick kids. It's a good problem to solve, as a parent/designer. We are definitely aware of how bad are the current solutions related to healthcare, I am sure they are good solutions but it's not available for everyone to use. Maybe one day, soon enough. Another thing to note, the case study we are sharing today is by 7 ahang, a student from Hangzhou, China.
We are sharing the work from creative director Daniel Tan from Tofu Design based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Say hello to his concept entitled: Aero, a flight booking experience for the Web. At first glance, it's definitely an updated UI with "less clutter" that would just fill the experience with legal information and ad placements. There are cool ideas like the one-click access but I particularly like the "See your journey" feature, that's pretty neat and totally enhance the booking expectations.
